Figureprints with its popular Xbox and World of Warcraft games figures may be still the top-selling company for 3D prints, but Shapeways is the first company that published its numbers.
"2011 was a solid year at Shapeways. We saw a huge growth in the number of community members, uploaded models, 3D printed products, shops opened and income earned by Shapeways shop owners.
A quick scan of the numbers:
In 2011, Shapeways 3D printed over 750 000 individual products and delivered them to people around the world
Over 238 000 were uploaded to Shapeways 3D models in 2011 by our community of over 100 000 members
Shapeways shop owners earned over $ 270,000 in revenue in 2011 alone, compared to $ 100,000 from our launch in 2008 through April 2011
Over 2.500 shops opened in 2011 alone
Check out our Prezi (ie, infographic on steroids) of just a few of the cool things that happened in and around Shapeways in 2011. "
The sales commission of $270.000, paid as a surcharge on the Shapeways price, blur the actual sales volume a little.
It appears that many users of Shapeways use the service for their own: with 750.000 printed products Shapeways should reach an estimated turnover of 20 million dollars with an assumed price of $30.
2011 was a year of large financing rounds for Shapeways and MakerBot. At the same time, we see a consolidation in the market for high-priced 3D printers.
In the Reality Leipzig GmbH offer a variety of 3D printing applications. Our favorite, however, remains Fluid Forms printing from Austria.
