Magento is of interest to Exciting Commerce particularly due to its role as a driver of innovation. Can Magento evolve into more than just another shop system?
When looking at how fast the Magento fever is catching on, memories of another open source project comes to mind. Mozilla, with its Firefox, didn’t just make another web browser, but was able to establish a complete new ecosystem (of plugins) and also work further on new products.
Pascal Finette, who is currently building up the “Global Open Innovation Program” for Mozilla Labs, recently reported on his experiences:

Magento has chosen as its mission statement: "enabling the ecommerce ecosystem". It will be interesting to see how far Magento developers, designers and the pundits of e-commerce will be able to work within an open innovation process to release untapped technical potential - and thereby open new possibilities for the future.
