Bob Schwartz is the new strongman at Magento, who as President is now driving the marketing, sales and operations areas. The founders will thus be able to increase their focus on product and development activities.
"I am passionate about building great eCommerce companies" is the mantra which clearly places Bob Schwartz amongst the ranks of people crazy about e-commerce. At the Meet Magento conference in Leipzig, Germany, our Jochen Krisch asked him some questions about his background, Magento and the outlook for the e-commerce.
Bob Schwartz reflects many of the philosophies held here at Exciting Commerce and has been for a long time a kindred spirit.
At his presentation at Meet Magento, he spoke about the “e-commerce experience layer”, on which entertainment elements can be drawn into the e-commerce sales channel. He also spoke on the trend towards “media commerce”, a more dynamic and increasingly media oriented understanding of online commerce.
Bob Schwartz is an extremely valuable asset for Magento. As demonstrated in the interview, when he speaks on the mobile future of e-commerce, we hear much more than standard buzzwords and catch phrases (price comparison, location based services, etc.) which are expounded by self-proclaimed e-commerce experts.
Good to know that there is proactive Magento leadership with a broad understanding of e-commerce built from experience taken from a variety of e-commerce segments.
Near the end of the talk, Jochen Krisch asked about the “Enablement Lab” which will be located in the new Magento headquarters. Innovative companies will be able to embed themselves closely to Magento experts to enable direct exchange of ideas and e-commerce solutions. A very promising initiative which the Magento team announced at the Meet Magento conference at Leipzig.
