Worldwide there are only a few operators who have understood the live shopping business as well as Woot!
One of these rare teams is Catch of the Day, our favourite live shopping service from Australia who manage to continually surprise and delight their users with new sales campaigns such as the recent “Quilt Cover Extravaganza”.
Catch of the Day started Scoopon in April, a very well executed Groupon clone for Australia. Previously they had already launched a wine spinoff.
Catch of the Day has been able to nearly double their revenues in the last year to 60 million AUS dollars:
Catch of the Day is a perfect example of how to take a successful idea and copy it well. In the meantime they have also launched a spinoff in New Zealand. A start in Asia is also planned.
The Australian public seems to have taken fondly to live shopping. Under the Top 10 list of online retailers from SmartCompany, there not only is Catch of the Day represented, but also the private shopping club OzSale.
Zazz, the Australian live shopping pioneer who was last year still under the Top 10, has long been eclipsed by Catch of the Day. Newer private shopping clubs such as Brandsexclusive and BuyInvite are growing strongly but still need some run up time.
Catch of the Day with their Scoopon is not alone on the Groupon trail. Jump On It has recently received financing and some of those participating investors also hold stakes in Groupon.
