According to information from Mike Butcher of TechCrunch Europe, several US firms have got the French private shopping club Vente-Privée and the overall private shopping club sector in their sights.
Apparently Gilt, Amazon and eBay are actively looking at potential acquisition targets. Vente-Privée alone should be in the $1.5 - 2 billion range. Some sources even gauge Vente-Privée in the $2 - 4 billion ballpark.
Vente-Privée was late to take a foothold in the US market. In particular, the financially strong Gilt Groupe from the US is turning into a serious competitor.
