Since the first Exciting Commerce blog post in Germany 4 years ago, Exciting Commerce has been relentlessly striving to give new impulse to the online e-commerce scene. All the while trying (with mixed results) to dispel the innumerable myths which invariably circulate the internet industry.
Indeed, the year 2008 has shown how easy it is to be lulled into continually lowering one’s standards. As long as e-commerce hasn’t even reached a quarter of its potential, one shouldn’t overrate the first, albeit delightful offerings. For really exciting e-commerce applications there is still a lot of room to grow.
Since the end of last year, Exciting Commerce has been developing progressively and is purposefully trying to extend into the next two to three years with thematically relevant threads such as “web currencies”.
The first four years have shown that on a good day, Exciting Commerce can not only stir up the industry and generate lively discussion but that also many early Exciting Commerce topics (social shopping, live shopping events, etc.) have in the meantime taken root and find themselves on the agendas of mainstream industry forums and conferences.
Besides a future-oriented outlook, our goal is also always to get a better feel for current market developments. As such, Exciting Commerce’s evolving “Top 500 Shops” list helps to bring a better understanding of the true success factors in e-commerce.
This international edition of Exciting Commerce, in the custody of Jason Soo from its inception in March of last year, has also been gaining popularity. And we have seen that allegedly fringe topics (eg. Luupo & Co.) can also spark noteworthy international interest. Exciting Commerce has also recently been syndicated by Optaros.
Our focus blog on video shopping has also formed its own character in its first year of operation. Stephan Randler has developed a good reputation as an independent industry observer and has recently gained some attention with his first interviews and public speaking engagements.
At present, Exciting Commerce spans a bundle of industry and focus blogs. Besides excitingcommerce.com and the parent excitingcommerce.de, are the German language Live Shopping Days, Video Shopping Days (aka Twive), Exclusified and Exciting Travel.
The most frequent question by the way, (particularly from journalists) is whether Exciting Commerce isn’t simply shooting itself in the foot with its occasionally over the top expressiveness and sometimes polemic articles. Apparently many would underestimate the ability of businesses to differentiate between crude mudslinging and thought-provoking constructive criticism.
In general we experience a great deal of openness for new ideas and stick with Markus Kobelt’s motto: Don’t believe everything we say, but build your own opinion. Exciting Commerce cannot be and does not want to be anything more than a source of inspiration.
Many thanks to all new and loyal readers for the four colorful and exciting years. Thanks also to all the sponsors and innovation partners, some of whom have supported Exciting Commerce already for several years.
