The Swiss online supermarket LeShop.ch plans to raise its revenues this year from 112 million CHF (2008) to 135 million CHF (about 118 million USD). The announcement was made by founder and CEO Christian Wanner at the St. Galler Internettag (German link) in Zurich last Tuesday.
LeShop was founded in 1997 and has been profitable since 2006. The annual growth (German press release) averaged 38% in the last five years. For parent corporation Migros, LeShop.ch is now turning over more revenue online than its strongest supermarket branch store.
Particularly interesting is LeShop’s transport logistics. Instead of an in-house delivery service, LeShop uses the downtime of the Swiss Post. For example, LeShop deliveries are made between 5PM and 8PM on weekdays.
With per capita revenues of 15 Euros, Switzerland ranks Number 2 worldwide between Great Britain (54 Euros) and The Netherlands (7 Euros) in terms of internet grocery delivery.
