Bessemer Venture Partners has invested $13.3 million in the full service e-commerce technology and distribution company Onestop Internet. Onestop Internet specializes in online stores for the fashion industry (and in this case the luxury segment), and has appropriately used a part of the new capital to take over Billion Dollar Babes. BDB is an exclusive sample sale concept which has recently launched an online shopping club.
In addition to the press release, which we received by e-mail, the announcement stated:
In particular, the new funding has allowed Onestop to acquire Billion Dollar Babes (BDB), the designer sample sale brand featuring a variety of "crème of the crop" fashionable clients in premium markets worldwide.
Earlier this month, Onestop introduced the online component for Billion Dollar Babes, providing discounted merchandise and VIP benefits to fashion savvy shoppers around the world."
Further in the press release it’s mentioned that according to a Forrester report, only a third of all luxury brands are represented online even though up to 80% of the rich and glamorous already shop online. Onestop Internet manages online stores from the likes of Dickies Girl or Nicole Miller. A slightly outdated portrait from 2005 can be found here.
Shopping clubs of all shapes and colors are springing up like weeds all over the US. When we checked last December we counted 14 clubs, by now there has to be over two dozen.
Interesting with Onestop Internet is the combination of regular online shops and the attractive “clearance sale” type solution as with Billion Dollar Babes. Currently there are very few firms having such full service expertise.
For this and other exciting developments in the fashion industry, Exciting Commerce is hosting the (German language) second Social Commerce Forum on June 17th in Bad Homburg in Germany (link to announcement and early bird registration offer).
